This is a call for personal experiences with Open Science. We are going to use the submissions to develop anonymised teaching cases for researchers, students and citizen scientists.
Calling for experiences involving Open Science
Do you have experience with Open Science and a story you would like to share? Stories we are looking for may involve an ethical dilemma, a value conflict, a deep disagreement, or a problem where it seemed difficult to find a solution or several solutions seemed justifiable in different ways. We want to learn about real-life experiences with Open Science because we are developing teaching cases on Open Science and citizen science for students, researchers and citizen scientists. These cases, made available online, will be short (up to a page) anonymised narratives presented in a way that encourages reflection and discussion.
Who are we?
We are researchers in the European Union Horizon 2020 project ROSiE: Responsible Open Science in Europe (https://rosie-project.eu/). The aim of the project is to analyse ethical and epistemic issues that can arise in Open Science and citizen science and to develop tools to help researchers, citizen scientists and other parties to deal with them better. The working group primarily responsible for developing the teaching cases is based at the University of Tartu, Estonia. It includes Kadri Simm (kadri.simm@ut.ee), Associate Professor of Practical Philosophy; Jaana Eigi-Watkin (jaana.eigi-watkin@ut.ee), Research Fellow in Philosophy of Science; and Emmi Kaaya, PhD student at the Department of Philosophy.
How can you contribute?
You have two options if you want to send us your story.
- You can submit your story without including your name and contact details. On the next page, enter your story and leave the question about contact details unanswered.
- You can include your contact details. On the next page, enter your story and the optional contact details. If we write a teaching case based on you story, we will send it to you before online publication so that you can give feedback. This is voluntary for you.
In either case, you may want to write your story without including identifiable details. If there are any, we will remove them when developing the cases.
You can write as little or as much as you want. As a rough guide, the published cases will be from half a page to one page of text.
How are we going to write the cases?
We will do our best to ensure that the published cases do not include any identifiable details. We will do our best to treat the stories with integrity but we reserve the right to edit them for length, clarity and teaching focus. We will be grateful for all stories submitted but we cannot guarantee all of them will be used in the published teaching cases.
How are we going to safeguard the data?
The data you submit on the next page will be stored on the servers of the University of Tartu, Estonia. Only the researchers working in the ROSiE project will have access to it. We will only use the data for developing teaching cases. The original stories and the optional contact details will never be made public and never used for other purposes. The data will be deleted after the teaching cases are published.
